The Florala Series
I use acrylic on canvas mainly, but I truly enjoy mixing different medium. In the Florala Series, I have used organic dried flowers and plants, some grown in my own garden in Israel, some synthetic leaves ( the larger bright colored ones), some textile . I also use glass paint, textile paint, 3 D liner in all colors as well as colored aluminum dust. I enjoy looking for new products and deviate them from their traditional use to accomodate my vision. I use silver and gold leaf, glitter and 3 D paint to bring the painting to life and give it more dimension. It constantly changes with daylight traveling along the wall or the viewer walking by the picture.
I started using the color red after my time spent in India. I was taken by a color storm in Jaipur where our hosts bought saaris for their numerous family members. We spent two days in shops looking at beautiful fabrics and textiles, a feast to the senses, a dance of shades and hues. I had to buy one for my daughter and myself. We were also extremely lucky to attend a wedding in Mumbai, festivities lated for an entire week . It was a royal experience! The major theme here, in The Florala Series is a burst of color, of life, with lines traveling outwards and upwards, twirling, looking to create links between Heaven and Earth, tapping into the deep underground wellspring of spirituality that nurtures all life. Personally, it is a journey. Looking for roots, for meaning and purpose. Having moved so many time to many countries, learning new languages and becoming so deeply part of a foreign culture, I really don't know where I am from. This physical detachment allowed me to see a wider picture about the true human condition. The quest to understands what it means to be a human on this planet, in this time lapse and my own personal place in the universe.
Do we need to be from somewhere in particular, have a certain citizenship, be from a particular coutry.
How much change has our ancestry gone through to have us as a product... The decisions we are making in our lifetime will affect our descendants , who are they going to be? Ultimately, home isn't four walls and a roof, or borders of a country. It is where your children and loved ones are. You can make a home anywhere. I packed an entire household in two days twice and created a new home across the world. I also enjoy the experience of the new and unknown. Life is like a book with chapters unfolding. The trick is to know when it's time to close a chapter and start a new one. Change is good, it brings new experiences, keeps us guessing and interesting.
